The Success Habit That Changes Everything: Consistency

Updated: Feb 4

Heading back to my favourite Pump class at the gym today (after a longer break than I’d care to

admit—but hey, I’m celebrating that I’m back at it now that the kids are back at school!) got me thinking about one of the biggest factors in success: consistency.

Even if I only go to one class a week, I know my body will start responding. I don’t need to overhaul everything overnight—just the repetitive nature of movement alone means that strength and fitness will naturally improve. The same principle applies to almost everything in life and business.

Why Consistency Matters More Than Perfection

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to make progress is because they get caught up in perfectionism. They think, If I can’t do it perfectly, I won’t do it at all. But in reality, success doesn’t come from doing things flawlessly—it comes from doing them repeatedly.

  • Perfection leads to procrastination – How often have you delayed launching something because it wasn’t “ready” yet? The truth is, waiting for perfect conditions usually means waiting forever. Meanwhile, the people who take imperfect action are making progress.

  • Consistency builds momentum – The first few times you do something, it might feel slow or ineffective. But the more you show up, the easier it gets. Over time, the effort required decreases, and the results compound.

  • Consistency creates trust – Whether in business, fitness, or personal growth, people (including yourself!) trust what they see repeated over time. If you show up for your audience every week, they’ll start to see you as a leader in your space. If you show up for yourself every week, you’ll start to believe in your own ability to follow through.

Imagine two people who want to get fit. One goes to the gym five days in a row and then stops for three months. The other goes just once a week but sticks with it for a year. Who do you think will see better results? The person who showed up consistently, even if it was at a lower intensity.

The same applies to anything—whether it’s marketing your business, improving your mindset, learning a new skill, or saving money. Perfection isn’t what moves the needle.

Small, repeated actions do.

The Snowball Effect of Small, Consistent Efforts

At first, it might feel like nothing is happening. But consistency compounds. Over time, the small things add up to big results—whether in fitness, business, or personal growth.

Think about what you could commit to doing just once a week that would move you closer to your goals. And if you can manage more than once a week? Even better.

The truth is, you don’t need to do everything perfectly—you just need to show up regularly. That’s where the magic happens.
